LEVELS OF PEST CONTROL JOBS

Exterminator Job Description
There are generally three basic levels of pest control jobs available. The first is the  exterminator. The exterminator is the one who customers deal directly with. Exterminators go to the locations to actually apply the materials that will rid houses, buildings and property of pests. The exterminator will start by getting
addresses, phone numbers and type of pest being reported. Based on the data given to them, they will set a daily route and load their vehicles with all the necessary insecticides, sprayers, traps and inspection equipment necessary for their route.
Once they reach a property, they will inspect the property for rodent droppings, insect damage or other signs that a property may be infested. They will look for "hubs" of insect activity such as ant mounds or mouse nests in attics, basements and closets. They will then apply the appropriate insecticide, poison bait or lay traps to eradicate populations of insects of rodents.
Applicator Job Description

Pest control jobs that require more advanced techniques or a wider range of insecticides or control methods will require a pest control applicator. Applicators are trained and experienced in the use of advanced
techniques of pest control and perform significantly more complex tasks than exterminators. They may use a combination of chemicals and actually perform structural modifications to a house or other building to prevent further infestations. Specifically named "termite exterminators" generally work at the applicator level drilling holes and cutting openings in buildings to be able to treat infested areas. In some cases termite control exterminators working for some companies actually perform structural repair after treatment.

Fumigators are applicators that use poison gas to treat serious infestations. This is used where there are serious infestations of spiders, fleas, roaches, etc. Using this technique, fumigators seal off the structure they are working in and make sure all occupants are out. They then, by use of various types of equipment, fill the structure with fumigant. This generally kills everything that moves in the home or business.
Pest Control Supervisors
Supervisors in the pest control industry generally are primarily involved in directing other applicators and technicians. They are always licensed to apply pesticides, but are generally involved in managing a business or running their own.
