poisons, insecticides and knowledgeable trapping of some types of pests. Pest control workers are generally needed where there is an infestation or the potential of infestation of some type of pest. Small numbers of bugs, spiders, rodents, etc. can generally be taken care of by traps, sprays and granules available to the general public at discount department, home supply, and grocery stores.
Licensed pest controllers are needed when an outbreak or infestation requires the application of insecticides that are the stronger, concentrated form of the diluted sprays they purchase at their local retailers. Restricted pesticides are only used for severe infestations and are only available to licensed professional exterminators. With federal restrictions applying to these pesticides pest control jobs require knowledge about all aspects of composition, application and legal use.
Pest controllers most often offer a combination of exterminating and preventative services which may include cleanup of unsanitary conditions, building physical barriers, poison baiting, traps, etc. Termite control is one of the best known and widely used services of professional exterminating companies.
New pest control jobs today implement technological advancements to control termites, spiders, roaches, etc. The technology is used in various ways and in a variety of devices, but the similar activity of all these devices is the emission of electronic signals that eventually drive insects and even rodents from homes and other buildings. Another way technology is being used is the use of electronic chips that signal termite and other activity to let the pest control worker know of their presence. This allows them to make quick decisions about the most effective way to treat an entire building.
Most pest control jobs available are for exterminators or pest control technicians. They travel to any location where pests have been identified or where the owners wish to ensure control. They work directly with customers evaluating structures and pest volume, and working out a course of treatment. They then apply the appropriate pesticides, place traps or both.
